YP WA Section undertakes a site visit to Halliburton Jandakot By Jarrod Smith, Ziad Zammar, 18 Oct 2013

As part of the Halliburton and SPE WA YP partnership for the 2013/2014 year, a site visit to the Halliburton Facilities in Jandakot was offered to students and YP members. 18 students from various disciplines relating to the Oil and Gas industry jumped at the opportunity to view what Halliburton has to offer. The disciplines involved included petroleum, chemical and mechanical engineering. The guided visit offered students the opportunity to see Halliburton’s work up close, and get a feel for what they can expect as future young professionals of the industry.

The day was structured around the services that Halliburton offer to the industry within Western Australia and around the World. Each service was introduced to the students and technical background information was given. The services demonstrated included; Drill Bit design, Formation Evaluation techniques, Reservoir Testing/Analysis, Well intervention and many more.

Following on from each topic presentation was a guided tour to that particular section within the Halliburton facility. With the equipment present and the ability to hold and inspect the tools for themselves, the students were able to do something that very few are able to in the industry.

A detailed explanation of various tools that are used in the industry was given by the knowledgeable staff working within the facility while still getting the students involved through the asking and answering of any question they had. Through the use of the presentations and the tool demonstrations, the students were able to gain valuable technical and practical knowledge that can be implemented in their future studies and careers.

The site visit was a great success receiving positive feedback from the students involved. The SPE WA YP committee will be pursuing more great opportunities for students and YPs alike in the future.

The SPE YP’s committee and members sincerely thank Halliburton for the time and effort involved in the successful site visit.
