SPE Western Australian Geomechanics Seminar 14 Nov 2016

Ahead of the SPE APOGCE 2016 conference in Perth, the SPE WA Geomechanics Seminar, hosted at CSIRO ARRC on Monday 24 October, resulted in a mini-conference on Petroleum Geomechanics. The event included 12 oral presentations, 13 posters, one exhibitor (local WA company) and three lab visits (CSIRO, Curtin petroleum and Curtin geophysics).

A total of 58 people from five operators (Chevron, Woodside, Quadrant, Latent Petroleum, Santos), eight service companies (Schlumberger, Baker Hughes, Epslog, Oilfield tech, Halliburton, Stochastic simulations, Inflatable Packers and Blackwood energy), independent consultants, four universities (Curtin, UWA, Monash and Adelaide) and CSIRO attended the event. The seminar had a great coverage and helped to foster the WA Geomechanics community.

The seminar also generated surplus funds which will be put towards student scholarships.

The feedback from 36 attendees ranked the presentations 4.1/5, lab visits 4.3/5 and the venue 4.2/5. 80% of the respondents would like to see a yearly or bi-annual follow-up to this event.
