Lessons in formation and reservoir evaluation in northern Australia
Tuesday 10 October 2017
A joint SPE / FESAus Event

Oil was first discovered in Australia at Rough Range-1 during an exploration drilling programme in 1953. The well produced at a rate of 550 barrels per day. So with over 60 years of exploration, appraisal, development and production, what have we learnt about the geology, the formations and the reservoirs in the basins of northern Australia?

Considering the reservoir, from the well bore to the well head, how has our knowledge and understanding improved, what do we now know that we didn’t know before?

Consider historical success, failure, challenges, stranded hydrocarbons and serendipity, compare these points with today’s new challenges, technologies, costs, markets, politics and the impact on the planet.
